It won't work. It will throw  your meter off by an uncalibrated amount, if
it works at all.
 
My suggestion? Practice, practice, practice. :-)

I find it quite intuitive. But I've used Leica selective metering for 17
years now off and on, and I'm used to it. It works great and I never have
exposure problems. Ever.
