I can tell you that at NATO Ministerial meetings in Brussels, at least 
one of the official photographers who are allowed to "shoot" Ministers 
and officials during sessions uses one of the older Leica R cameras with 
telelenses on a monopod... Most of the others use Nikon however :-)
