I think you are forgetting that making a camera with 1940 techniques is a job
that requires the workers dedication. When all you have to do to fabricate a
piece for a machine is to push a button, dedication doesn't matter very much.
I doubt that slaves would be very dedicated to their jobs, as they were so
cheap as to be easily replaced. And a good slave technician would know ways
of making a camera fail long after manufacture so that it would be hard to
trace it back to him. So I don't put much credence in Leitz using slaves.
Other activities, non-precision work? Yes. But slaves for precision work,
that is hard to believe.
