Bob,

The Leica card is not connected with equipment registration. It is a program
for users in Germany only, in principle. For either 99 or 180 DM per year you
get certain benefits, such as a magazine called Leica World (in German only),
the catalogue Pascal refers to below, some other goodies like that, a free
equipment check at Solms, and insurance for your Leica stuff. You can find out
more details in the German section of Leica's web site.

As I said, the Leica card is officially available only in Germany. However,
they do make an exception at least for other EU countries, which why Pascal is
a member, and I just signed up at Photokina. They assured me that the insurance
(a benefit I am particularly interested in) is now possible also in Belgium and
the Netherlands.
