I compared the 7x42 and the 10x10s closely when I made my purchase. I found the 7x42's were easier to handhold. There was less noticeable shake. Another benefit is the large exit pupil, making these wonderful for low-light watching. They're excellent binoculars. For birding, a good tripod-mounted spotting scope may also be beneficial for you. The 7x42s are the only thing I have ever purchased that came with a 30 year warranty! Best, George
