Hass's books was inspired by his directing the opening sequence of the
movie "The Bible." In fact, I heard he shot some of the book's photos at
the time of filming. Cecil B. DeMille was looking for a director to do the
opening sequence to represent the creation of the earth, and Haas' color
abstracts got him the job. A later version of the book uses other creation
stories as well as the Bible.
