Simon

I have a third version 28/2.8 Elmarit and it is a fantastic lens. I
purchased it new about 5 years ago. If you'd asked me about it up until a
year ago, I would had said very little, because I didn't use it much. I
purchased a new 35/2 Summicron about the same time I bought the Elmarit.
The Summicron was the only M lens I used. I shot mainly b/w and I very
rarely carried a second lens.

Last winter I started using an M for color work. I also bought a 50/1.4
Summilux and a 21/2.8 Elmarit ASPH. The 28/2.8 filled the gap between
those two better than the 35/2 Summicron. I now carry the 28 and I
primarily use it for landscapes and architecture. Both can be very
demanding of a lens. The 28/2.8 performs extremely well. It has excellent
contrast, extremely low distortion, and light falloff isn't an issue to me
even wide open. In practice I nearly always close it down a stop or two,
where it performs superbly. When I project slides taken with my Elmarit in
conjunction with slides that were taken with my 28 Nikkors the Elmarit
slides seem to elicit more positive comments.
