Subject: [Leica] Hotshoe sync problem with M6

Rarely using a flash with my M6 :-) it took me over a year to realise
that its hotshoe is way out of sync. Snaps I took at a wedding a few
months ago showed but a thin strip of correct exposure, the rest of the
frame being dark. I put this down to the effects of alcohol and setting
the wrong shutter speed - but some test snaps I took last week proved
that something is wrong. Without film, last night I looked through the
back firing the flash at different shutter speeds - the flash was firing
too early. I repeated experiment this time with sync cord - and hey! it
works fine.

So - anyone out there know why the hot shoe is out while the sync cord
gives perfect sync with same flash unit?
Is it expensive to fix? Is it worth fixing (I spent many years with my
trusty Leica M2 attached umbilically to my equally trusty Vivitar 283
via sync cord)?
