Nathan,

I have tried many loupes and the one I love is the Zeiss 5x.  Leica now has
a 5x too, which is probably as good though I'm not sure it's available yet. 
The Zeiss is bright, contrasty, clear, and easy to use.  It's sort of a
sleeper among loupes but give it a try.
