While we are talking about the wonderful southern language there was a
recent discussion of what the French term La cinquieme roue du carrosse
meant.  It was determined to mean as useless as a fifth wheel on a carriage.

Here in the south we have a much better term.  "As useless as a teat on a
boar hog."
