When I worked in the aerospace industry in the late 1950s and through
the 1960s, application of a sealing compound to pre-set adjustments
was an accepted and approved method of preventing subsequent movement
to due vibration. Once the hardware had been properly set up and had
passed its tests, a splash of sealing compound was applied to each
adjustment point. Done properly, it's a prefectly respectable
engineering technique.
