Subject: [Leica] Leitz on Everest, Version 32, Mod 48

A recent bit of trivia has spurred my interest immensely. Through a
non-LUG source, I have learned that the noted British climber, L. R.
Wager, apparently took a Leica high with him on his epic '33 climb -- he
and Wyn Harris discovered the ice axe left by either Mallory or Irvine in
'24 below the First Step, and Wager MAY have documented this discovery with
the Leica. Investigations are continuing!

I had previously thought that the first use of a Leica in the Himalayas was
by Dyrenfurth in the late 1930's and on Everest was by the '84 Canadian
climb. I may have to eat my words yet! (WITH salt and extra cholesterol
- -- I have to preserve my energies!)
