According to the James Lager Vol II book on lenses,  you need a retaining
ring 14 161 in order to hold a Series VII filter in place.  If you need to
buy one of these, you could try the folks who sell a lot of used Leica gear
- - Tamarkin, Don Chatterton, Jim Kuehl, Sam Shoshan, etc.
