Those ratios are under ideal viewing conditions. Most glossies 
are more like 20:1 or less.

So far as I know (Mr. Brick, I *am* expecting you to correct me
if I'm wrong here!)...

A very good CRT monitor viewed under good conditions (dim ambient
light), with the correct gamma correction, can do 100:1.

You may expect that backlit active matrix LCD screens will get
even better, but at the moment they still have uneven tonality.
See the present Apple Studio Display if you'd like an example of 
what a merely average flatscreen will look like in 4-5 years.
