Philip Greenspun, proprietor of photo.net, says (http://photo.net/wtr/thebook/images.html) that for monitors: Contrast ratios between 100 to 1 and 170 to 1 are therefore more typical. and High-quality black-and-white photographic prints have a contrast range of about 100 to 1. g.
