That is true they do not want to offend the hand that feeds them, but
magazines do not "jimmy" the charts.  Pop Photo also did a article
explaining why manual focus cameras produce sharper results which would have
PO'd 90% of their advertising.  I applaud them for this.

My take on the testing thing:
Photo magazines tend to not want to offend their advertisers so they
jimmy the test reports so that everything averages out to being pretty
much the same. This does not fare well for Leica which often require
some more intensive financial planning.
The ones I do like though are not the fake charts or lists but when one
old photographer gets to use the thing for a few weeks and he tells us
his very subjective opinions on things. This I can figure out and believe.
