I had a 400mm 5.6 telyt with me for the eagle pictures as well.  It had the
televit-r rapid focus mount.  I brought it to use for flight shots but
didn't have any fly close enough.  It is a fine lens, but the 400 APO is
much more contrasty and seems to record more detail.  The difference
between the 400mm 5.6 and the 400mm APO are similiar to those differences
between last years eagle pictures on my page shot with a Tamron 300 2.8 and
this years 400mm APO shots.  I did pay twenty times more for the APO than
the Televit-r version.  I guess you get what you pay for in life.  Remeber
also that the pictures on my page are the APO with two converters attached.
 It is much better when used just with the 1.4 converter or without any.
