The BD is an earlier version, the red dial came later and supposedly had
some improvements to the shutter, making it quieter. I've had both, and I'll
be honest with you, I couldn't tell the difference!
The flash synch is different- the BD is set to '2', the RD to '20', they
both synch at 1/25 of a second! Anyway, a true officianado of the Barnack
Cameras wouldn't be caught carrying a IIIf and a flash together!
Get you a good clean Elmar or collapsible Summicron and you have a primo
portable P&S that will 'work fine- last a long time'!
Good Luck- they are fun cameras, and you get to see first hand why the Leica
marque gained such widespread respect, so early on!
Bask in the light!
