Yeah, sorry.

O.K.
1) On the camera (any camera Leica, Nikon, Canon etc)
all you need is a flash working with TTL or in automatic.

2) On the Nikon SU-4 (little box with a Nikon dedicated hot shoe)
you need a Nikon or Nikon compatible flash.(Metz, Vivitar, Sunpack
Sigma etc.)

When you fire the camera + flash, the SU-4 will detect the flash
and will start his own flash.
Then the Camera (via TTL) or the flash himself (if automatic)
will stop the flash.
It will be detected by the SU-4, which will stop his own
flash via the dedicated contacts.
