mitch,
although my friend harrison has the newer Nocti with the built-in hood, i
have the older version (just prior to this one) with the 
clip-on hood.  the filter size, however, is the SAME as on the newest lens
(e60).  the earlier Noctilux had a 58 size filter, i believe.
my Nocti makes wonderful images (hey, Harrison bought one after borrowing
mine), but i must agree with Harrison that it's nice to have the built-in
hood on the lens.  i'm sure it's just my imagination, but his lens actually
feels a tad "smaller" than mine.  again, that impression may be due to the
built-in hood.
regardless of which version you buy, you'll love the lens.
