If that means turning it vertical and focusing in a horizontal line (like the subject's eye or lip or something) or whatever. You have to come up with a strategy to make sure your focus is right on. Shooting at 1.4 is not likely to yield good results if you're shooting fast-moving subjects. So time to focus at 1.4 is usually there. It just takes time to think things through.
