Jim,
When I decided to get into Leica (also from EOS....which I still have, but
is mostly used by my partner), I went straight to the R6.2.
The R6.2 is a truly beautiful instrument, simple to use, solid, well
balanced, perfect size, quiet shutter (well slightly quieter than the R6,
IMHO) -- and with the R system you will be getting access to some great
objectives -- the 15mm Super-Elmar, 19mm Elmarit, 100mm Apo-Elmarit Macro,
etc etc. This camera is totally manual (which I really wanted, after years
of AF and mindless 'snapping' -- not that I denigrate AF -- it has its place
and uses-- and I will look again when Leica brings it out ( in 2 years ?) ).
You are already aware what can be done with a Leica system ( your M6), so
the R6.2 will present no surprises -- other than the great tactile reality
of the camera and lenses, after the much lighter Japanese objectives (EOS).
Later this year I intend to get into the M6 system, so that I can access the
Noctilux, and the ASPH 35mm f1.4. I don't see any conflict or doubling-up
between the M/R systems -- they 'compliment' each other perfectly -- that, I
believe is one of the main reasons many photographers eventually do use them
both -- although many, indeed choose to specialise in the rangefinder
system... Also Eric and others can advise you eloquently about the virtues
of R8 -- I haven't yet had the pleasure!(and I needed a fully manual
camera...)
Best of luck and great photos!
Ross
