They're quite a bit older. But one might make a good backup camera to an 
R6.2 or R7. But they are both more expensive because they are better built too.

If the R3 is the right price, that's cool. But I'd rather have an R4 of 
some variation. Just don't get a real old one. The best of the R4 series is 
the R4sP. Pretty reliable (as long as you don't drop it from great 
heights), simple to use. I see them for $495 all the time. Bargain shoppers 
call it the "blue light special of Leicas." :-)
