You can have chewing gum, but its illegal to sell it there.  The reason was
a gum on the shoe of the President/Dictator (your choice) made him declare
it illegal several years back.

Dan,

You mean you have chewing gum in Singapore?  I didn't find any when I
was there and was told it was not allowed.
