Ok if this off topic thread on pens is going to continue I am going to
add my take on comparing Leica to other things...not pens but guns...the
Luger to be exact.

Night before last I was watching the history channel and around midnight
they had a special on the Luger. Was very interesting and I thought of a
lot of comparisons to Leica.

1) the Luger is prized by collectors...the one of a kind .45 caliber
model made for demonstration to the US Army in the early 1900's is
estimated to be worth $1,000,000.00

2) Other prized versions include models made for royalty, and notable
individuals. Including some gold plated versions...the Luxus of Luger I
guess.

3) German made with extremely fine craftsmanship.

4) Sometimes finicky to use.

5) You shoot with each.

6) Value of the collectables range from a shooter price to a collector
display price...sounds kinda familiar, no?

I also found it interesting the gun the Luger was based on was designed
by an American citizen who could not get anyone here to make the
gun...got a German company to make it and the Swiss army was the first to
adopt it as their official side arm.

A gun smith in California is making reproductions of the 45 caliber model
which are selling for $15,000 each.
