Subject: RE: [Leica] Summilux 50mm/1.4 for over $3000

The Doctor Apologizes:

For the use of the term "moron" in regard to the gentleman who paid more
than $3,000 for a 50 summilux with black paint.

Those who have pointed out that this list included collectors are entirely
correct. Dr. Blacktape was commenting as one who considers cameras and
lenses tools with which to make photographs, rather than objects of
deification and investment.

Sorry.

I don't know why this creates such a sensation, and the fellow who bought
this black paint specimen is certainly not a "moron." It is a collector's
item, that is all. I happen to know him, and he is certainly not a moron.
He is very astute. You only wish you had a single piece of his collection,
which he would gladly show you.

Is the fellow who pays top price for a Noctilux 1.2 when a new 1.0 can be
had for less a moron?

For that matter, are we all morons for paying more for a single Leica lens
than an entire system costs of another brand?

Sorry, it is just that I don't like my friends being called morons.
