That's interesting. This former Infantryman (US Army) recalls being =
taught to use the tip if the finger on the trigger on a rifle  (M16A2) =
or a pistol (M9). Using the crook of the first joint will tend to pull =
the rifle slightly. The only exception is when you are shooting a =
machine gun where you are supposed to jerk (actually, "pull") the =
trigger. The Army also has a rather neat simulator called the Weaponeer =
that will actually let you see your technique on a computer monitor and =
according to that, and my practical experience, their way does work. For =
the record, I shot "expert" btw.

Now, the applicability of this to Leica shooting isn't so clear to me. =
But I can hand hold my M4-P to 1/8th of a second, and have managed 1/4 =
with a wall to brace off of. In point of fact though, I think that =
learning to control ones breathing and to release at the natural pause =
between breaths, just as I was taught to do on the rifle range, is a lot =
more germane than how you hold the shutter release. But then, I haven't =
tried the little gizmo.
