Doug, Go to you local Leica dealer and get a focussing knob for a 
pre-collapsible hood 50.2, then saunter over to the local camera technician 
and have him drill two small holes in the barrel of the lens and also mix up 
some good epoxy. Liberally scratch the surface with a sharp object, apply 
epoxy and attach knob (the holes are for the little plastic pins on the knob) 
and let it sit for 24 hours. It does work, but you still have that miserable 
collapsible hood to contend with. Trade it back to a non collapsible hood 
lens! You can also drill a small hole in the barrel, tap it and insert a 
small metal pin with a largish head on it (similar to the screws that hold 
the back plate on to stereo equipment), A bit nerve wracking but it works,
