To be surgically precise, Hoya supplies a few lens blanks for some of the R
line: the most, by far, of Leica's optical glass comes directly from the
Schott works in Mainz. And the Hoya blanks have to meet Schott
specifications. Due to the happy relationship -- called Payment of
Licencing Fees! -- between Hoya and Schott, Hoya is the only foreign glass
supplier capable of meeting this requirement.
