I got another reply to my plea from someone with exactly the same problem. He suggested going in and removing the current colour profiles I was using - the RGB profile and the Adobe Gamma profile - lo and behold it worked! Then I just had to go back in, reload the new, uncorrupted profile and voila... (seems they have a habit of getting corrupted. This guy has had it happen twice) Anyway, worth knowing for future reference. Now, after uninstalling and reinstalling half my system, I just have to got in and reset all those preferences everywhere!! WHAT a pain this all is. So much for getting some work done this morning.
