The Nikon 300 2.8 AIS is one of the best lens ever manafuctured. The
sharpness and resolution are incredible. Before anyone says that the Leica
conterpart is of a equal or greater quality. Lets look at the use this lens
is put through. Most user of this lens are sports photographers and at the
same time some of the most memorable photos in sports photography have been
taken with a Nikon and to a lesser extent Canon. Here im taking about SLR
not M-Leica. Also no Pulitzer prize has ever been awarded to a photo taken
with a Leica SLR. Because Leica-SLR are not up to the punishment put on
them by pros not the 5 rolls a year shooters which most of the lugger are.
Any ways Leica has great optics but the SLR bodies have second rate
features. No compact tough motors or even removable finders and their
metering system is a shame given the price of their bodies. They have no
technology when it comes to SLR bodies and because of this it makes the lens
worthless. Its like having a Ferrari engine in a Yugo. I like to here
comments on the death of the Leica SLR bodies or better yet when are they
going to be born.
