They mentioned Stu Levy a photographer who still dry mounts the implication
being that most others don't. A Big article in the paper about them, the SK
Josefsberg Gallery this morning. Stu dry mounts his colleges to a large board
explaining his still using the dry mount press.
Interestingly they mentioned a show they had of a German photographer from
prints from decades back in which he had dry mounted his prints to
non-rag-archival board. The Dry mount sheets protected the valuable prints from
the board. And these were not the newer "archival" dry mount tissue you can get
now which is even more inert and is more surely removable.
A sure way to find out if I am full of it or not would be to call some gallery
people yourself and see what they say. As someone mentioned there might even be
localized trends. Where are you? I'm in Portland Oregon. I would have thought
the Photo gallery world might be more cohesive with the internet and all.
