I am "sandwiched" between two AF-CI users. My father, a serious amateur
photographer for most of his life and the person who introduced me to Leica
in 1953 and who gave me his IIf system, is now 85 and prefers a P&S. Our
daughter is 29. She grew up with Leicas and other decent gear about and
available for use, but she and her husband now prefer a P&S. A few years
ago Midwest Photo Exchange in Columbus, Ohio, had a special on a small
shipment of AF-CIs, and we bought them for both my father and our daughter.
They are deleriously happy with them -- it's the first time my father had
taken any pictures in a decade.

My take on them is that they're moderately sturdy and simple to operate --
nearly foolproof -- but lacking many of the bells and whistles that one
finds generally on newer P&S cameras. Image quality is superior to most the
P&S units I've experienced. Our daughter has had some 8x10s made from Royal
Gold 200 negs that were processed at the drug store, and they're
respectable. It's also a point of pride to both that they're using
Leicas.///Dick Baznik
