Subject: [Leica] (OT) 35-70 mm zoom for G2

Issue 92 of the French Réponses Photo has a short story on the new Vario
Sonnar 35-70 mm for the Contax G2. It is a real zoom, not a tri-focal lens.
Maximum openings are 3.5 to 5.6. It does not work on the G1, they assume,
because of the design of the finder and its framlines. It is small, with a
diameter of 46 mm or just under 2 inches. Price quoted is 8500 francs,
which is around 1250 dollars and includes the french sales tax which is
around 20%. What B&H will charge is an open question......

This issue of the magazine - Special Noir & blanc - is a true gold mine for
the b&w photographer. If you can get I, do so.

I used to have a Contax IIa in the sixties, and I liked the Sonnar 50mm 2.0
a lot but I am neither a G2 man nor a zoom man, so I hope this does not
start a long thread.
