I missed something. We're criticizing cropping now? What next, dodging and 
burning? 

reminds me of something John Sexton said on a visit here discussing available 
light photography among other things. He said he always uses it, but then 
said he had a small strobe he used to highlight things in his pictures.

And how does this fit with using availble light? "It was available in my 
camera bag and I used it," he deadpanned.
