Subject: RE: [Leica] Is there a report test on Summicron-R 2/90 and Summilux-R 1.4/80

Francis -

Both of these quotes are from Erwin Puts excellent site. The first quote is
about the Summilux-R 1.4/80, which I have no experience with, but others
here such as Ted have spoken highly of it. The second quote is actually
about the Summicron-M 2/90 and not the R version, but it parallels my
experience with the R version. Wide open it is a bit soft and fine details
are lost, but it has a wonderfully creamy look that is great for portraits.
Stopped down it is very sharp with excellent contrast and saturation,
similiar to Jonny's comments on the 35/1.4 M (old), "But the lens also has
a quality at f8 that is quite remarkable...sharp but... organic somehow.
Warmth, I would call it."

"The 1,4/80 at full aperture gives a lower contrast image with a tendency
to flare. Fine detail is recorded with good contrast but soft edges. This
recording capacility holds on axis and only slightly drops in the field.
Extremely fine details are just visible, but it depends on the film if you
can see them. At f/2,0 very fine details visibly crispen but the edges stay
on the soft side. At 2.8 the image quality improves but is not on the same
level as the 2,8 capabilities of the 90/100 trio. At f/4,0 we find the
quality we already noted in the SAA at full aperure. Stopping down improves
the contrast and the recording of extremely fine detail. The edges of
outlines stay a bit soft."

"At full aperture both versions produce a low to medium contrast image with
a particularly weak micro contrast . Still the recording of fine details
has a smooth and pleasing characteristic. The performance jumps quite
remarkably at f/2,8 and smaller. "

Subject: [Leica] Is there a report test on Summicron-R 2/90 and Summilux-R
1.4/80

Folks,

Does anybody know where I can read/get a test report on the performance
(Contrast/Resolution etc) of the Summicron-R 2/90 mm and Summilux-R
1.4/80 mm ?
Thanks.
