>>The R lenses are just as good. The R8 body is a<<
>>matter of taste...I currently own a SL, R8, 35/2, 50/2<<
                >>100 2.8 APO & 180/3.4 APO.<<

Our line up is somewhat similar; I use the R7, R8,
24/2.8, 35/2, 90 2.8, 100 2.8 APO, & the 180 2.8 APO.
I've also used many other Leica lenses; M & R gear.

I'd like to express my opinions about the R 35/2 & the
R 90f2.8; Both lenses are outstanding! I personally
judge the R 90 f2.8 to be equal (if not slightly better )
than its M counterpart. I've shot both a lotta times ;-).

The R8 body comes into its own ( balance ) working
with both of my R APOs; both for hand held & tripod
work. In particular, a R8/100 APO combo is a match
made in heaven ;-)! And, Jay, I think your R8/180 f3.4
would be great for hand held work as well.

Conversely, I love working with the 35 f2 & 90 f2.8
on my R7/winder/grip combo. Ideal setup for any
type of "off-the-cuff" photography. The 24 f2.8
works in here as well; however, I've yet to use
the 24 focal length to its potential.

So yes, R lenses are great & both bodies ( R7 & R8 )
contribute well to utilization of these optical "gems" ;-)!
