I found one in a used bookstore called "Contact: Theory" by Lustrum Press,
NY. Very interesting! It came out in 1980. It shows representative
contact sheets from photographers like Vestal, Cahbonnier, Erwitt, Gibson,
Mapplethorpe, and Uzzle, just to name a few. You can learn an enormous
amount by looking at the contact sheets of these photographers. Each
photographer gives a brief essay on how they make their contact sheets, and
how they use them to edit and evaluate their work. For Nuts and Bolts
photographers, this book is terrific, if you can find a copy of it kicking
around in your local library. A close examination of one contact sheet of
a photographer can reveal an incredible amount of information about the
working style and vision of a photographer. It is more useful than looking
at the photographer's finished portfolio.
