Subject: [Leica] God, no Canon vs Nikon ...

I thought the original post was seeking advise for a college student in what
type of system or camera to use for sports. Assuming the student is not
rich or has a scholarship to purchase equipment. Then neither current Nikon
or Canon technology can be recommended.

A better choice would be to purchase a used Nikon F4 or below or a Canon F1N
or below. Used telephoto lenses such as the 180/2.8 or 300/4.0 or even a
well used 300/2.8 are readily available at a reasonable price. Even some AF
for Nikon if they should be so inclined.

If the giants of sports photography such John Zimmerman, Mark Kauffman, and
Neil Leifer of Sports Illustrated fame used manual focus lenses, why can't
the new kids do the same.

There are very few sport photographers that can match their genius today
given the AF technology.
