Sorry Simon, I missed out the URL for Steven Gandy's serial # page the
first time I sent this.

********************

Canada black chrome M4's are amongst the rarest of the M4 variations.
According to Sartorius total M4 production was 58,904 of which 47,190 were
chrome; 100 chrome made in Canada; 4,889 black enamelled; 4,070 black
chrome; 1,750 black chrome made in Canada; and 905 MOT.

If you have the serial # you can find the exact date of manufacture, along
with details of the above quantities at Steven Gandy's web site at:

http://www.cameraquest.com/mtype.htm

where the number of black chrome M4's made in Canada appears to be 550

In better condition the camera might be worth nearer 3,000 US dollars - as
it is you are unlikely to lose money on the camera if you decide to buy it
- - the market for collectable M4's is very hot at the moment. If you are
after a user M4 a similar condition chrome one would be a lot cheaper.

Hello everyone,

I have been offered a Black M4 by a local dealer for US1600. Unlike other
black M4 I have seen, this one has E. Leitz Canada engraved on the top
plate. The camera is in good working order but a lot of the black chrome
has been rubbed off. The bottom plate seems to be black enamel so it may
not be original. Can anyone give me some advice on whether this camera is
worth the money?

Thanks
