Well, sure: Canada is still a Dominion (I realize the term "Dominion" is
little heard these days, but it is still the official title!) and is still
a monarchy who shares its monarch with the UK, Australia, New Zealand, and
a number of other nations. That didn't change -- but the Canadian
government has appointed the Governor-General for the past half-century (I
believe FM Earl Alexander of Tunis was the last Governor-General nominated
by the British), they have designed their own currency for the past century
and even took Canada out of the Sterling system before the First World War,
and so forth. The British no longer have a presence in Canadian
governance, though their monarch does.
