I've not seen the Kirk plate, but I cannot imagine a nicer piece of work than the RRS
plate for the M6.  It fits the baseplate like it was made in Wetzlar (where my M6 was
made) and the finish is outstanding.  The Arca Swiss ballhead is another magnificent
piece of workmanship, and although it hurts to pay for it, the old adage is true that
if you buy the best you only complain once.
