Les,
Congratulations and welcome to the bottomless pit / black hole of Leicadom. From here on there is no way out...
Who knows, with the exercise and activity your joints will now get using the M6 you may even find this camera will improve your arthritis!

best wishes,
Jem (remembering what his first Leica-M felt like) Kime

I posted a couple days; a little story about going to the camera store,
actually holding an M6 for the first time, and walking out of the store
without buying it! Obviously, something was wrong with me to pass up on the
opportunity. :-)

Well, nothing is wrong with me after all. I bought the camera today.

I called the camera store yesterday to get some more info; the store staff
didn't know the price when I was in there on Saturday. They said the owner
wouldn't be there until today and he was the only one that knew anything
about the Lecias. Called back today and the owner indicated that the camera
was used and he gave me a price for the camera and for the attached 50mm f2
Summicron lens.

Went over at lunch. The owner recognized me; I bought my Contax G2 and Lecia
Minilux from the same guy; when he realized I was a repeat customer, he
knocked a couple hundred off the price. The camera felt better the second
time. There was no manual, but he showed me some "tricks" with the camera
(mainly how to load it). The rest seemed easy to figure out.

I thought about it for about five minutes and eventually decided to buy it.
The only wear marks are a couple very minor scratches on the knurling (is
this the right word? you know the little ridges on the edge) of the battery
compartment cover.

Ran a roll of TX through the camera after getting home. The roll is hanging
in the bathroom right now drying. The pictures look pretty good (at least at
a quick glance while wet!).

The only problem I've had so far is that the lens didn't have a lens cap and
both the store where I bought it and another one near work didn't have one
in the right size.

I compared the M6 side-by-side with my G2: I think I still like the feel of
the G2 better, but the M6 is very definitely quieter. I'm looking forward to
doing more side-by-side comparisons.
