A couple of recent postings noted the large volume of undeveloped film left by Gary Winogrand when he died.

This reminded me of the time back in 1970 when I attended a talk and B&W slide presentation of his work he gave. During a Q&A part of the program many questions regarding the aesthetics and artistic intent of his work were posed to him. Then one photographer stood up and asked him how many rolls of film he usually took with him when he went out shooting. His answer: "A couple of rolls. If I run out of film I just go to the nearest drug store and buy more."

9000 rolls of undeveloped film? That's a lot of trips to the drug store! Try to find a drug store today that sells Tri-X.

Regards,

Robert Browne
