filters,
etc? I believe he uses an older Hasselblad.<<

I met Michael Kenna at an opening at the Camera Obscura gallery in Denver
in 1990. Nice guy. He had just started using Hasselblad, along with 35mm.

This I can recall. He used Nikon. I used Nikon. He had just started using
Hasselblad. I had just started using Hasselblad. He used the same films and
developers that I used. His photographs were much better than mine.
Somewhere there's a lesson in that.

P.S. One thing that was unique about his work was split toning; the beauty
of which was much more apparent in the original prints than in any
reproductions I've seen. And by split toning I don't mean dipping sheets in
two trays of toner. I'm talking about selective toning with tools such as
Q-tips. Very tedious, I imagine. And very time consuming. This he didn't
tell me, but I heard through other acquaintences. Don't know for certain
but I'd say there's a person who knows b/w papers; and probably reacts a
little more strongly than the average person when a favorite paper is
changed or discontinued.
