Subject: [Leica] D.A. Harvey's lens hoods and street photography -- a "double header" thread!

Looking at the 50mm Summilux on his M6 as shown in the National Geographic's
tape which played continuously during his Cuba photos exhibit at NG's
Explorers Hall, it isn't likely Harvey could get a hood mounted on that
particular lens. The filter ring was so dented it was practically flat from
the one o'clock to the four o'clock side of the lens. At least, you can be
sure he didn't use a UV filter ;-) !!

As I wrote on the LUG after seeing that video, if you want to know how a
master uses M cameras for street photography, the film of Harvey at work is
an excellent primer. Constantly moving, shooting and reframing, he
maintains eye contact while he smiles, cajoles and otherwise interacts with
his subjects. He is a charming guy, and it is easy to see how he is able to
establish a comfortable rapport with the people he photographs.

For what it's worth, the Renaissance Park Terrace Hotel, where the LHSA
Spring Shoot will be held (April 14-16), is where NG houses it's out of town
staffers when they are in D.C. And, it is only two blocks from their
headquarters where there is always a worthwhile exhibit of some of their
latest work open to the public. LUGgers who are planning to attend should
call and reserve rooms ASAP due to anticipated demand over these weekend
dates.
