Subject: Re: [Leica] M6 classic and 90mm lenses

Pascal and others,

The APO f/2 90 mm Summicron ASPH, with its hood extended, intrudes into
the generic viewfinder of the M6 0.72 just about the same as the f/1.4
35 mm Summilux ASPH with its hood mounted. Of course, the 90 mm does
not intrude into its bright-line frame as much as does the 35 mm. With
the 90 mm mounted on the M6 and looking into or using the 90 mm
bright-line frame, you can visually draw an arc of the intrusion from
the right end of the lower bright-line frame to a point about
one-quarter of the distance from the bottom of the right bright-line.
That is the area of the viewfinder that the barrel and hood of the f/2
90 mm APO-ASPH intrude in my M6 0.72. Neither the 90 mm lens', nor the
35 mm lens' intrusion is anywhere close to the focusing patch.

May I note that for my use, the viewfinder intrusion of the f/2 90 mm
APO-ASPH and of the f/1.4 35 mm ASPH is similar to "white-noise" in the
background. The viewfinder intrusion on either M-lens is not noticed by
me in my use, for example, people, architectural (exterior and
interior), landscapes, and sailing. The slight viewfinder intrusion,
for me, "goes with the territory" of an M.

I am an eye glass wearer (Zeiss thin plastic lens, no coatings and
polished rims) and I have no problem focusing either Leica lens, the f/2
90 mm APO-ASPH at f/2 (and the f/2.8 90 mm Tele-Elmarit at f/2.8), or
the f/1.4 35 mm ASPH at f/1.4 mounted on my M6 0.72.

Just an opinion of one M user,

I'd have a question regarding the use of a 90 mm lens on the M6 classic
(0.72X). how much do the Elmarit-M 90/2.8 and Summicron-M 90/2.0 APO
ASPH obscure the M6 viewfinder? I find this aspect very annoying. The
Summilux-M 50/1.4 does not have this problem, but the Summilux-M 35/1.4
ASPH obscures quite a substantive part of the viewfinder.

Is precise focusing a problem with these lenses on a classic M6 model
due to the small area in the viewfinder?
