The argument unfortunately can go considerably further. I never travel
without a camera. I keep an M5 in my business bag, an R7 in the car  and a
few lenses, but there often are times when I needed the lens I didn't bring.
As a result I, too, have tried to go without a camera - nothing as extreme
as
your experience, but the same general conclusion.
The reality is that I can go rof days without taking any photos,too.
