Hi, Hank -

It is from SilverFast:  http://www.silverfast.com/
It's very expensive and I didn't understand the advantages at first, but it 
does give you a lot more control over the scanning and results in much 
better scans.  I still don't use it for batch scanning because you have to 
buy additional software for that, but I just use the batch scanning for my 
database anyway.  When I'm going to print something or burn a CD, I use the 
LaserSoft for best results.
