Arthur,

I believe that all M shutters are pretty much the same so therefore the M6
shutter should not require any less maintenance than an M4.  In fact, I
really don't think there is much to maintain on these shutters.  Eventually
the shutter brake may need to be repaired or the curtain speed adjusted but
that's about it.

Clearly, late M's appear to have far more problems with rangefinders than
M2/3/4's ever had.   This is one area where cost cutting is apparent.   I
don't buy for a minute that later M's require less maintenance than the
early ones.   Early Leicas are like the front ends of Mercedes Benz cars.
Once they are correctly adjusted, they stay that way forever.
